I read somewhere that the Silver 427 Cobra in the movie Hollywood Knights had a 427 SOHC in it at the time the movie was filmed. It was later removed and replaced with FE 427. There was a recent thread regarding that car too. The engine was not available except through Fords Total Performance Parts network in the mid 60's. Connie Kaletta was one of the early drag racing pioneers who used the engine. The layout and the concept was unique but I think the 9 ft timing chain was the achilles (sp?) heel.
It was more sucessfull in Drag racing than anything else . Shelby even used the engine in a Front motored dragster racing effort too, with I believe Don Prudhome driving it.
