Default Cammers in Cobras

There were no Cobras built with a factory-installed Cammer. There were, however, a number of cars retrofitted with Cammers.

At the very first National Shelby Convention in 1972 (SOA, before SAAC), Carter Gette brought CSX 3270, which he had redone to S/C specs and added a 427 Cammer to. Rumor has it the car would run in the 9's at the strip.

At the very first SAAC Convention, in Oakland, CA in 1975, John Bloeman DROVE CSX 3208 to the convention from Colorado, with a Cammer. I recall watching him adjust the timing belt in the parking lot of the Oakland Hilton.

I believe Motor Trend did a test on a '64 Ford Galaxie 4-door (!) hardtop that had a Cammer in it. The car was built by Ford for Astronaut John Glenn - it MAY have come down the production line, but it surely was more of a "one-off" special than an RPO (Regular Production Option).

A friend of mine from high school built an ERA with a Cammer - it was near-twin to Peter's, all black and stunning. This car was at SAAC Conventions in Charlotte in '93 and Indy in '94. I got an unforgetable ride in it at IRP in 1994. Acceleration was incredible!

regards,

Jeff
