I am not sure of the difference between a FL-1 and a FL-1A. I would suggest that you use a Motorcraft FL-1HP which is supposed to be a higher flowing filter with a stronger case compared to the FL-1 or 1A. This filter has a 400 PSI burst rating.

An equivalent to the FL-1HP is a Wix Racing filter 51515R. The Wix box warns that the filter is not intended for street use. The reason for this warning is because there is no bypass if the filter should clog. The burst pressure on the Wix is 500 PSI. You can get the Wix at local auto parts stores and NAPA. The NAPA version of the Wix 51515R has some Michael Waltrip graphics on it that may not be too appealing under a Cobra hood. I have used both the Wix 51515R and the Motorcraft FL-1HP with no ill effects.

I do not know the micron filter rating for any of these filters.

Wix has the common decency put the filter in a sealed bag inside of the box. Ford does not.
