Default Dash Accent Tubes - What Covering?

Hi Guys:
I just got a pair of Dashboard Accent Tubes, these are the two angled tubes that run from the bottom center of the dash to the tunnel of the trannie.

I have been doing some research on what to do with them in terms of color and covering. Some pictures show them covered in what appears to be either a leather or viynal and then passing thru the carpet via gromets.

I would be interested in knowing two things from you all...

1) What were the 427 Cobra's tubes covered with?

2) What have you covered yours with (ie: paint, powdercoat, leather, viynal, etc)

I have a number of old laptop carry bags that are just taking up space. I was figuring on cutting out some of the black leather and wrapping the tubes with that and a good contact cement. If I cut it right, I may be able to get and have a stitched seam (from the bag) towards the back of the tube.

Again, all ears...
