Right you are. Two of the loudest cars I ever heard were a Boss 302 Trans /Am racer driven by Sam Posey at LRP and friend Peter Basalice, with his very High Comp. 289 GT350 that will break your ear drums.
On second thought those Indy cars or F1 cars can also make some noise and all without a lot of cubes.
