Ernie - You really hit on something with your response. It is true that 300 honest horsepower will take a 2200lbs car to the mid 11's if it is set up right. The point being of course, there is large confusion over power and controled power. That said there are two other factors not typically mentioned however. The first is, if 300 horsepower is needed to go mid 11's, then all things being even, over twice that horsepower number is needed to push that same car one second faster. Then twice again to to go 1/2 second faster still. Point still is, horsepower be damned; setup is everything.
The other point not typically discussed in the horsepower wars is an engines ability to rev up quickly under load. A diesel engine will not run the same as a formula engine in the same car, even though both engine produce exactly the same horsepower. There are sound reasons why certain engine designs die out, both in production and in race cars.

Funny why more people don't see it this way,and they are the same ones sitting on the sidelines wondering why they can't do better in the short hops even with all the big numbers they are posting.Their loss our gain, torque just plain feels better, all the more reason for big cubic inch muscle.
You guys are funny,Packing an 8 incher! in circumference.

I agree, that's why my motor is 527 cid.

That's why I love Fordzilla's TQ numbers, at low rpm and a great,...curve.

Very nice engine !
I thought about a stroker and still do occaisionally. What makes me hesitate is a couple of times have kicked the rear-end out in turns with the 460 applying just a tad to much wick! That 527" must have a strong rollon.Half the fun of owning a Cobra are the rollon's for me.It's incredible how quick these cars can pass others.

Kicking the rear out, a tad too much wick (like our sprint car) = fun !

I enjoy it but with street tires it's easy to lose it.I guess it would be the same with stickies all around but going a might faster.Only time I can play around is early a.m. and on well known roads,or back parking lots.A mans gotta do what a mans gotta do!

This motor will be going into the 'Stang soon. We've set the car up to handle this beast & hook as much as possible to the pavement. We'll see how it does.
