Guys, I don't get why these are so hard to find. I thought they were put into trucks, Thunderbirds and a lot of other Ford products.
I ran 1970-71 0n Craig's list and got some hits. One was a 1972 T-bird for 250 bucks. There was a Galaxie 500. and a Merc with a 460 also. If you can get thes cars for a few hundred wouldn't that be a good way to go if you want a torque monster?

I have a Performance Automotive Warehouse catalog (2005) that list a rebuild kits for 429 - 460 from $851 to $1048.

kit includes: crank, rods, pistons, rings, bearings, cam, lifters, oil pump, timing chain and gear.

I have heard that the 429/460 is the cheapest Ford motor to rebuild.

Now I would not want a lot of the parts in the kit, but you could build a mild motor with a butt load of torque for a very little money.
At one horse per cubic, you would have 460 hp.

600 hp from a 460 would be easy.

A stroker crank kit,set of aluminum heads,intake and water pump,a decent fuel mixer,top it off with a good ignition and you have a fine air pump to move you down the highway smartly.Make sure whatever you decide on for compression your cam choice optimizes it.

I'm running a special on Scat/Probe stroker kits right....this would be a good candidate for one. They're all the same price....so go big... 552/557 cubes is easy. I'm building one right now for my own personal Mustang.

Just finished removing the head on the driver side and as I suspected the news isn't good...there are windows in #7 and #8 cylinders...soooo I guess this is the end of this thread...I'm a little disappointed but like I said all I have in it is some gas money and an afternoon of wrenching...which is entertainment to me.Thanks for all your comments.I'm always scrounging around so if I find anything else I'll let you know.
PS: If I can figure out how to put pics on here I'll post some...including the snakeskin.

Post pictures. Any way that you can sleeve the cylinders? Or are you just going to look for another block?

Brent,I'm going to see if I can put some pics up today(not real good at that stuff)...as for the motor,it's not a CJ or SCJ just a plane Jane 429,so I imagine the cost could get out of hand real quick...I allready have a 351W with a mild cam and 1968 closed chambered heads in my build...I just thought that with a little luck it would be fun to work at this 429 for the future...what dose sleaving a cylinder cost?

Not worth sleeving a plain jane 429/460 unless you've got a fully machined piece that you are repairing. Around here a sleeve installation runs around a hundred bucks per hole

I've been having trouble finding good 429/460 cores around here. When I do find them, the sellers either want $150-200 for a bare block, or more for a rebuildable core.

It's just a matter of what's available to you and how affordable the machine work is.

Finding a free block is certainly a step ahead....

I was all excited when I say the block ID..D1VE 6015 AA which is suspost to be a CJ block...but after doing some research and found that alot of plane Janes also had the same marking by a factory mistake..I took a closer look and found that this block has the narrow webbing instead of the wider webbing on the CJ blocks...even so it wouldn't cost any thing to make a couple of phone calls.

Remember that a 460 block isn't your typical Ford block. If you're aiming for anywhere under 800hp or so, this block (or any other) would be perfectly fine.

I have a spare 460 motor, have thought about a big stroker.Why I hesitate is how easy this 460 slides in a turn with a tad too much wick.Can only imagine what whacking the loud pedal must feel like with 100 more cubes.What kind of numbers with say a 557"?Maybe somebody would want my motor.

Depending on the heads and cam....anywhere from 675-800hp. It's easy to get power out of them. A set of P51 heads and a mildish solid roller will get you 725-750 pretty easily without revving the engine high.

Steve i just had a sleeve put in a 390 for my kids car and it was an extra 75 bucks for the sleeve and to install it......so on a free motor you may just come out about even if you would have given a couple of hundred for it.....maybe you may want to rethink your decision to junk it.........
