found a siezed 429 in a junk yard
I found a seized 429 in a junk yard yesterday...was wondering if it would be worth trying to do anything with it.How far can you take them out(if I can get the pistons out)?Is there any years that are better than others...if so what numbers should I be looking for?The price is right!!!Thanks Steve

Most of them will actually take an .080" overbore.....and a LOT of stroke. If it's a D0VE or a D1VE block, I'd probably snag it if the money is right and it's not windowed or rusted solid.
Reusing the stock crank/rods, adding a new set of pistons, cam, and a good set of heads would probably make you a really nice, strong engine.

What years would that be and what heads should I look for on it...assuming that is what make the differance.

1970-1971 are among the best, but if you're not going for an 800hp drag engine, I wouldn't worry too much about cast numbers.
The factory heads are lacking and require porting/machine work to really make some power. Depending on your budget, there are some excellent aftermarket heads out there.

Get yourself a big tin of Marvel mystery oil and a can of patience. You'll be amazed what you can save.

You may wanna jerk the pan off of it just to make sure there's nothing mechanically wrong inside to lock it up. If there's not, then I've heard good things about the Marvel oil. Let it soak for a week or two...

free is the best price i have ever found when it comes to engines....
buy the marvel mystery oil.....the ATF/Acitone works but the acitone
evaporates.....leaving only the ATF.....
Brents correct on pulling the pan first.....then pull the heads next....
you may find something in the top of the cylinders thats keeping it
from turning over.....good luck and keep us posted on your progress...

Just got the motor Thursday nite and started to take it apart yesterday...not looking good sofar..removed oil pan, valve covers, exhaust manifolds and intake...water has gotten into every part and there was a snake skin under the valve pan cover(true). The second thing I saw was that there was a pushrod bent on #8 cylinder...not good. I wil be taking the heads off tomorrow and let you know what I found

If the block turns out to be a survivor, you might check out Jon Kasse's latest Boss 429 head setup....

Do you have any idea if it is really seized ( oil starvation while running), or just seized from rust from sitting unused for too long? Obviously, there is a world of difference.
