may want to get rid of stack injection for a carb
I have a 460 with TWM injection on a cobra I just purchased, I might want to go to a carb for a couple reasons and was wondering if there was anyone who had a single or dual carb setup they would want to part with? also a possible partial trade would be an option.
The reason I posted this here is I thought it would be a waste of time for anyone with a small block to view it.
thanks, Rich

...and here's me looking at finding an extra 10K to get an 8 stack injection.
Why are you looking to jump ship?
What am I missing?

Does this stuff ever work? It seems everyone that buys one, ends up either taking it off, trading it for a carb or selling the car. I'll stick with the good old carb or if I want the weber look, then I'll buy webers....

I'll assert it does work but the setup is hard to get right. Once it's working it's flawless. It's application though I think is primarily for those of us that go through big altitude changes. I can't see the value of it if you are always at constant altitude. I can go from Vegas (2000') to the top of Trail Ridge Road (12000') without touching it. Getting it to do that was a chore though.
One thing the fuel injection does though is put a pretty hard limit on the top RPM. Mine is 6500, but the engine ought to be capable of doing something like 8000 with a good carb setup. My engine is a Roush 427IR Windsor based.
A friend of mine sold his Ford GT and recently replaced it with a Superformance GT40 with the same engine for most of the same reasons.

My vote is for the carb....simplicity is a virtue.
I've also noticed that IR engines sound a little less "cammy" than an equivilent carb'd engine.

I switched to a carb and am happy with it. That being said im not sure why there are so many problems with EFI. Lots of late model cars running efi with no problems. I think a lot of it stems from the ECU systems and having a good tuner capable of tuning your ECU.

I have to agree with Tony on both accounts. You need to have someone who knows how to set up the computer properly but once it is dialed in, it is perfect. I would guess the reason all the late model cars are perfected is simply b/c they have a team of folks at the factory who know precisely how to set up the computers before it ever leaves the line.

I think it sounds like a step in the wrong direction! I have assembled numerous 8 stack Cobra replicas and have a couple minor incidences, but it is far superior to a carb in my opinion. Most always assume the ECU is the culprit for poor performance, when most of the time the problem is mechanical. Has anyone synchronized the stacks with an air flow meter? What is the operating system you are using with this unit? F.A.S.T.? Accel? Big Stuff? What exactly are the problems you are having drivability wise? Does the unit have an idle air control circuit?

I have had my TWM Fuel Injection on my Shelby since the winter of 2004. It was installed by Dave Dralle and Lance Nist from Pantera Specialist tuned the Redline ECU nearly 8 years ago. I have had NO trouble with any of the components with the exception of having to replace 12 rubber o-rings for the fuel system because I burn only 110 octane fuel. Plus I live in Arizona where it gets a little warm from time to time. I highly suggest if the fuel injection system is working the way it was designed to work...leave it alone! My .02!

I'm actually not having any problems with the tune, I'm kind of old school and like the simplicity of the carb and distributor, What is putting me over the edge is finding an air filter/screens I like that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I'm running an electromotive tec3 distributorless, I like the period correct look of having the distributor and wires as well.

Actually, TWM was bought out by Borla and is now known as Borla Induction. They do make Horn Screens for 58 mm horns. They also state that they are screens for keeping out debris such as stones and they are not not filters. I use a set of ITG filters which were very expensive, required modification to the horns and the hood opening and came only with a base plate that had to be cut out to fit. basically, they are universal filters. But maybe that is one reason I haven't had ANY engine problems in 8 years. Good luck to you!

I would never use a carb, the guys around here are so good at tuning it, its a no brainer if cost isnt a factor, just think, top fuel cars are fuel injected, formula one is fuel injected, so why wouldnt you want your cobra to be.

I can understand about the filter issue but I think I am satisfied with the setup I have for now. I know Melissa over at Cook Enterprises has a sweet set up, but I don't feel like parting with $1500 for that filter option..as a former leader in the pricing industry I think they overshot the mark for the value....just my opinion. For now, I have the screens and socks on top that seem to work great. They actually came from a motorcycle shop used for covering single velocity stacks....if the car is sitting for long time, I cut up some "biscuts" from another air filter material and I stick them in if the car is sitting for a while...(i.e. the really cold winter months).
I have looked at every option over the last two years, so PM me if you want some filtering insight....or slither for that matter.

Carb setup properly will get the job done on the track, and make as much power as EFI. To be honest I would put a new LS7 in this car if I was doing it again mainly due the Yates manifold etc making my scoop bigger. The advantage I would have with a 505bhp LS7 would be enough power, drivability and almost 30mpg fuel economy instead of probably 5 - 12mpg with the carbed Nascar engine.
If you were looking at it from a replica point of view (not a lookalike) then you wouldn't use EFI.
Ford engine is still better than GM in my lookalike AC Cobra!

You can run an 8 stack efi that looks darn near like the original carb stack set-up, but your right a carb will get it done.

uhhhhh, the OP's already stated that he likes the look & feel of original type equipment. Nothing wrong with that. That's the basic reason we ALL like Cobras.
