Bob,

Going mild is a good thing with the 385 series. Kinda like having your cake and eating it too.

My 460 is mild by most comparisons. Idles at 750 RPM. lots of vacuum for power brakes etc. 450 horsepower, but over 500 lbs of torque starting at 2800 RPM.
I even have a slush box.....but its not too slushy since it easily chirps the tires shifting into 3rd gear.

Is that what you mean by mild? Works for me.

John

Stumbled across this thread and after reading some of the postings I can re-assure my wife and everyone else in the general public that I'm not completely insane. That is if you guys are normal! I too have a 535HP 460 crate with an NOS cheater system. Nitto 555 extremes, tremec tko and an 8.8 with C-clip eliminators, true trac locker, stud girdle, bearing cap stud kit and moser 31 spline racing axles , with welded axle tubes and 4 link. I constantly get quized on why so much engine in so of a car. Because I can. The sound alone raises the hair on the back of my neck!

SPF with a 460.with an RDI Alum. Block, Cobra Jet heads, Torker II, Comp Cams 294S,
10.5 Wiseco pistons, Eagle rods, Holley 750. It made 504/591 at the wheels in 2001 with this combo. I put a 825 Race Demon, Road Race Carb on it yesterday and am taking it to Performance Associates (San Dimas, Ca.) tomorrow for a dyno-tune. I hear good things about these carbs. So I’m hoping it will pick up a little HP.

For those of you with Mech cams, how often do you adjust the lash?

Thanks

D-cel

D-CEL, sounds like a great engine combo. let us know what the new carb does for you.

What tranny and rear end ratio do you have?

I have my own custom 6 Carrara 4 link frame, running a 30 over 460, cast heads, 10.5 pistons, 850 Holley w/nitro, B&M 3000 stall, and 373 gears on an old Classic Roadsters body. Real nice and unique car with all the original race car body additions and decals. Almost 3 years to build.

jdean,

I will post my new results. Currently, it's a TKO and 3.27's.
Perf. Ass. is also swapping in a set of 3.73's. The 3.27's are to lazy for me. It was hard to decide how much gear to put in it. I have a 96 Mustang Cobra w/10 lbs Vortech, TKO and 4.10's which has been a great combo, But its 1000 lbs heavier, has 200 less ftlbs TQ, and spins 1000 more RPM. I almost went 3.90's but talked myself out of it.

Thanks D-CEL.....years ago I went to Thousand Oaks a lot on business......one or two exits before Moorpark etc. You have nice Cobra weather out there, not to mention cruising the canyons!!

Rich,

How much extra HP with your NOS shot? Any problems with it so far?

I am asking because I may consider that route if I get bored with the power I have. I installed a 114 LSA cam when I built it thinking NOS might be in the works one day. I like the Top Shot system that fits over the carb for a clean look in the engine bay.

I am running a FRP 460 crate 550HP/540 Torque in a West Coast with a Tremec 5sp(.82) and Ford 9" with 3:00 gears. Once I get all the leaks fixed and tune it proper I think it will be awesome. It already sucks you back in the seat with only half throttle. Hooks up like crazy even with crappy BF's.

John,

A quick update: just passed 20K miles, smile continues to widen. Went on a 300 mile cruise with the Shelby Mustang Club of Daytona Beach yesterday. What a hoot!

Hope yours is going great!

I'm running a 533, dual quads - dyno in October - 699.4 hp @ 5800 - 698.6 ft lbs. Best part is the 9.5 compression ratio. Headers are being done this month and then it's ready for the road, currently rangoon red, will repaint in the spring. It's a Hi-Tech with toploader and 9 inch Ford IRS.

Thumbs up 460 Ford Racing Crate in my West Coast

Almost ready to fire it up, I purposely waited the last 3+ years until gas prices dropped back down.

460 BB bored to 533, customized by Ford Performance Specialties, TrickFlo heads, Victor Jr. Intake (which btw will soon be changed for a Performer RPM Air Gap)... Dyno'd 650HP Peak with /643ft lb., might be torquier with the Performer RPM on it...running around town only so far, but the Vic. Jr. is like pushing a rope at those low RPM's, hope to see more torque LOL
