Default 460 Valve adjustment

I am trying to make my current heads last 1 more summer, so I am re-tourquing the head bolts, and ajusting the valves. The manual for a '72 429/460 says to remove slack from the rocker, then torque to 18 - 20 lbs. This doesn't feel right to me, it feels like I am going too far. I have a moderate cam and matching valvetrain, all with 1500 miles on it all.

How do you adjust your valves (ho far do you torque them)

Thanks in advance for the help,

Brandon,
I assume you have 7/16" studs and guideplates for an adjustable valvetrain. Find top dead center on #1 cylinder, pull dist cap off and see rotor pointing at #1 plug. Both valves closed. Back off adjusting nut until you can wiggle rocker.Tighten nut until it just contacts pushrod, try rotating pushrod between fingers)then give wrench 180 degrees more of a turn. Hydrualic lifters are pre-loaded with 1/2 turn more than zero lash. Rotate engine 90 degrees and do the next cylinder, follow the firing order.
Perry.
