Turbocharged 429/460
Hi to all, latest on my motor, it was overfuelling so I have taken off the 750 v/c and put a 600 d/p on to see how it fares, it starts much easier and appears to run very smooth now although it is still getting very warm,I expect it will get better as I get some run time on it. On another note has anyone had any succes with a turbo on a BBF, I know you people tend to supercharge, I was just wondering about the setup with a turbo, type etc.

Keane - turbo's are a nightmare for heat under a Cobras hood. I guess you could use ceramic coatings to help with the maze of pipes needed, but the bill woud be astronomical. Also bigger motors tend to need bi-turbo setups to work right too. Then there's that engine managment system that you would need to buy,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Gains made going that way would be marginal over a belt driven supercharger I would think, and for sure it would cost a bunch more. Better to start with a bigger base motor in the first place and use a belt to drive that big-ole' air pump IMHO.

I know it is sacrilege and all but if you want big cubes the bowtie guys are now offering a 572 CI monster with 720 HP right out of the box.

So how does that work - are big block engines from Chevy swappable with Fords? i.e. the same form factor? Are would some modification be necessary?
I'm not asking because I want to do it, I'm just interested..

429/460 turbo
H'mm, seem to have started some dialogue, which is good, I think the answer, if needed in the future would be a blower. Anyway what about the carb size,? using the formula,CI's x max Rpm divided by 3456 seems to be about right? What experience have others with carb/jet sizes? Thanks Dave

Keane- In a pressure box/ blown setup you ignore all the fancy math and just size the carb. "in the box" to the same size as if it was non blown. This is because the air flow through the carb. is the same as a normal engine. The difference is that the air going through that carb. is pressurized by the amount of boost you are running in a blow through setup. As for jetting, the rule of thumb is , 4 to 6 steps up usially takes care if it, but you will have to work with the bleeds and should use a non collapsable float. Pretty simple stuff really, and of course, in a Cobra, you will have to do the usial stuff to your carb. to keep it from starving out when going around corners fast.
If you use a down flow blower settup such as a Roots you will have to size the carbs. to the intake air requirments, I.E.-bigger or more carbs. I am running a 1050 dominartor but am thinking if cutting back to a 950 double pumper. Fuel injection woud be nice but a simple carb. does work fine.
