Default boss 429 rockers

can you only buy OEM stock replacement rockers? like, all i can find are NOS rockers for boss 429 heads. doesn't anyone make aftermarket steel roller rocker arms for boss 429's? any help would be appreciated.

As far as I know, nothing exists due to the rarity of the motor and the fact that the rockers are specific to the Boss 429. He//, even the intake and exhaust are different! I feel they are unneccessary, as the street rocker is the same one used for years in Nascar and drag racing. An oddity about the street motor rockers is that oil is fed to the rocker THRU the pedestal, as opposed to thru a pushrod. On the solid cam motors, there are 4 unique-to-Boss9 plugs with rubber orings that restrict oil flow. One thing for sure, and that is that IF these exist, they will be one-offs by somebody like Iskederian or Yunick, and damn sure not on a shelf at AutoZone! The stock valvetrain is good to 8500 RPM if set up properly, and I don't see too many Boss9's getting into that territory anymore.

what about the people that run motors based on these in IHRA pro stock? reckon that stuff is close enough related to the street motor to be used?

I don't think so. Glidden ran what he called a Boss 429 for awhile, and i've seen one of them and it's TOTALLY dis-similar! I didn't see
anything that looked like my motor except the Ford logo on some pieces!

Default Hello

Help

I am looking for Boss 429 Rocker arms.

---
My buddy has a AR hemi and needs a blower manifold for a 10.300 block. We have one but its for 11.200. We also have some spare shafts and stands for the AR rockers.........I think.
Talk about Bob G. I have a set of Venolia pistons left over from his shop. Very nice stuff.
Do you have any other parts for sale? I could use a Nascar pan, rocker covers etc.
---
Thanks

Tom

If you want rollers use jessel, I've ran the stock ones,to 8300 rpm or so,if stay under 780ish lift and keep the valve spring presser down( thats what cracks the head around the head bolt closest to the ehx head bolts

hope this helps,
nice site ,hope to hear from a few of you boss 429 guys

I have a set but I plan to use them on my blower street motor. Because I have these I know there must be more out there somewhere. They are 1:85 ratio. My NASCAR rockers are 1:75

I have a pair of the taller covers to go with the rockers. My rockers are black anodized aluminum for the exhaust, and intake rockers are silver.

Cool Boss 429 steel rockers

For what it's worth out there, I'm assembling a Boss with steel roller rockers.....they were made by AR for the E2ZM/E3ZM Motorsport hemi Boss head that was offered in the 80's and early 90's through Ford Motorsport. Try to find these things now.....they're like trying to find hen's teeth!

The problem with these rockers however is the fact that they have no provision for pressure oiling the rockershaft/rocker bearings, as the stock set up had. They were set up for splash oiling only, and they had their problems. I have several broken pieces to prove it.

I was forced to MAKE MY OWN rocker shafts out of 4340 chrome-moly, drill oil feed holes in them just like the stock Boss rockershafts, have them heat treated and ground to size, and then I had to eliminate the caged roller bearings in the rockers cause they have a tendency to wear the shaft. I made some 01 oil-lite bronze bushings to the right i.d/o.d., pressed them into the rocker bodies, and honed them to fit the new shafts, and now I have a full set of investment cast stainless roller rockers for my Boss that utilize the factory pressure oil feed holes.

I feel that these will hold up much better than the way AR originally designed them, and I will be able to report the results soon as I finish the engine here in the next month or so, and I will let you know how everything worked out when I go to dyno.

Hope this helps!!

Default Hey Eric

I picked up a set of AR rocker shafts, stands last month. We found that the stand will actually lift off the head with high spring pressures. You can insert a feeler gage under them! They also went thru changes. Some of the stands are different, half the shaft slides into the stand and not bolted down thru the stand. There is a counter sunk screw that bolts the stand to the head underneath.....I think.
My buddy has intakes for the AR. He may trade you for a blower manifold if you have one?. Here is another odd item I saw. He has 2 sets of AR rocker covers. One set uses only 4 bolts to hold it down!!

Wanted:

Blower manifold for the 429 Boss
Rocker covers for the cast iron ford boss hemi heads. They have the letters F O R D cast into them.
Nascar drysump oil pan

Cool

Hi Tom,

Sorry, I don't have a blower manifold for a Boss.....wish I did. As far as the rockerstand situatiuon, you're right. The AR stands are kinda flimsy, I had to re-make those too. I also pinned the stands to the heads to eliminate any movement.

These Boss' are a bit finicky when it comes to the valvetrain, there really is a big need for someone out there to start making a reliable bolt-in-place replacement roller rocker for the stock Boss heads. Just try and convince someone to start doing it......

Thanks Dude!!!

Eric

There is a set of new Miller Mid-lifts on ebay right now for $2950.00 (ouch) He says he has 4 sets?
BDS sells a 8-71 blower manifold for stock style Boss '9 heads.
C and C Motorsports makes a blower manifold for AR/RCI/C and C heads.
I have built several Boss '9s, The last one was blown using an original Mickey Thompson magnisium blower manifold from his funny car days. I used stock intake rockers and Miller exhaust rockers on that motor.
Jesel and, I believe, T&D make (or made) rockers for stock, early AR and then the later AR and RCI heads as well.
These are not bolt-ons and require plenty of machine work to fit
Check with C and C Motorsports as well. They have everything you need to build an all aluminum Boss '9.
