Thumbs up My 514 just dyno-d !

Finally my POISSON girl can get back on the road with all the good stuff under her skin! Here's a snapshot of the output:

RPMS ..... Ft Lbs: HP:

3900 RPM: 595 442

4300 RPM: 612 501

4800 RPM: 604 552

5600 RPM: 540 576

Probably lost a few HP due to the Edelbrock Torker 2 intake but gained bottom end torque so it's a trade off I can live with! Hopefully the EFI install in the near future will help the output numbers a bit. Less than 2 weeks before she's back on the road

Here's a pic of the dyno run:

Hey BiB,

We KNOW it has enough torque. The important question is: what's it sound like?

Default B-in-B.....

Nice numbers. What carburetor and cam are you running in your 514? I'm trying to decide on the proper carb for mine and looking for more data points.

Thanks!!

Red face It SOUNDS amazing!!

It roars and it shook the dyno room

The heat was incredible.. you don't truly realize just how much heat these babies put out until you stand in there, in an open ventilated room with a hot running motor!

The cam is the stock Ford Racing Crane cam for the 514 (was saveable so we used it) and the carb is a Barry Grant Demon 850.. I will be going over to the Holley pro-jection EFI system later this year, with 1000 CFM air door, 36 lb injectors, etc..after I get all the bugs outa my car.. then we will do a chassis dyno and have an exact, rear-wheels-meet-the-pavement-figure !

Soon I will be back on the street. It's a nice feeling

Hey BinB - you got any pics of the motor on the dyno?

Love seeing those headers glowing.

Will you be able to SEE around that big thing sticking out of the hood?

Sounds great. Congrats!

Default Wilf....

Believe it or not they did not glow, but then again it was broad daylight therefore, prehaps in the evening under soft lights, we might enjoy afore mentioned glow

OH, and she WAS running in those pics! Just 2250 RPMs however.. I would not wanted to be in there under full RPMs!

Lowell, believe it or not this motor fits under the stock hood. This was the reason for replacing the Victor Jr. intake in the beginning: It would have required a large "Pass thru" hood scoop which I did not want. I will admit that with the Demon carb I had to use the tiny triangular-shaped Edelbrock foam filter setup. With the impending EFI/air door I can use the oval Cobra system with my K & N filter, without hood mods.

Less than 2 weeks now to sit behind the wheel and hear that thunder again.. suffering from cobra withdrawl

Turk, that's a great question.

Where did Wilf go?

I like...

Can't wait until you start driving!

I think that's a tough one because I think of "can't wait" as a somewhat active and positive verb in and of itself.

If the question were:

Can't get it up, also!
Can't get it up, either!

Definitely either. But when I can't wait, I'm actively can't waiting.

I think either way (also way?) works.

Some people are way, way, beyond help with grammar.

In actual fact, just way beyond help, period.

Oh hell...

Nor can I wait until you start to drive!

Oohh.... a guy sitting a few desks away from me just said on the phone:

"So let's recap. So is either of them going to go through the change?"

Cornell MBA, raised in NYC (loves to remind me I'm from bumblephuck, Ohio), and failed miserably at the school of life, social graces, and common sense.

He is the bain of all of our existences and may drive me to quit.

PS - Nice numbers on the 514!!!

I know the dyno where my motor was run was different... very enclosed area, exhaust pipes were routed into the wall, through some tubing, and out through a vent in the side of the building.

I was driving into town about 30 minutes late, and had dropped the engine off the day before for set-up.

It was a nice day and I had the windows down and I saw a big exhaust fan on the side of the machine shop that was really loud. But I heard this nice roar over it and wondered...!!

I went inside and sure enough, he'd started without me.

Dyno days are so much fun, I can't wait to make some changes significant enough to merit another day on the engine dyno. I don't even care what the final number is. It just sounds so cool!!

BiB, did you get any mpeg of your engine on the dyno? I wish I'd have done that with mine, but I didn't...

JP

Cool You English majors

Deserve a cold beer on me I doubt it will help grammar but then, who cares after a few cold ones?

As to film, I took 8mm video tape of the dyno pulls, (Left the camcorder on a solid surface in there, running) therefore next need to discover how to translate that 8mm into digital feed. I have web space to post it and just need the time to sort out the technicalities of such from my Sony camcorder. Not sure if that's all proper English but then I am mostly Scottish, anyway

BiB,

I think Turk was just questioning himself. He is after all, not originally from 'here'.

I looked back through the thread to see if he was quoting someone's english, and I didn't see that sentence anywhere.

I'm not sure how being a nit-picky basturd earns me a beer, but I'm not arguing. When you get that 8mm converted to digital, post the link to the webspace. I'd love to see that. I wish I could go back and dyno my motor every month just to hear it wail as the load is turned on.

I'm going to get a digital camcorder soon. All I have right now is my digital camera with mpeg mode. 320x240, 4 minutes max. The ol' VHS-C camcorder finally bit the dust.
