Default Clutch Setup

I've got a 514 with Richmond Gear Street 5-Speed. I'm using a Ford Racing flywheel, Centerforce clutch and McLeod hydraulic throwout bearing in a Lakewood bellhousing. The bearing has failed twice and I want to replace it with another brand. I've talked with Tilton and they claim their bearing won't work with this combination because the Lakewood bellhousing is shallow and the Centerforce clutch is tall.....the bearing won't fit. That means I either fix my setup and try it one more time or I find another clutch that will work with the Tilton bearing. What combinations are you running successfully inside a Lakewood bellhousing?

Thanks!

Chuck

Question

Hey Chuck, Something doesn't "add up", the Tilton release bearing should work. You'll need to take measurements to prove to Tilton and yourself that it will work. On tilton's web site I downloaded the installation instructions and they are very clear with measurements and diagrams for this 600 series bearing. Since I am getting ready to install mine this spring and I plan to use the same Centerforce clutch (149000) in my WC. I have decide to use an OE cast iron bell housing not the Lakewood housing. The Tilton part numbers should be 61-613F (base)and 61-604 (bearing) for the trans we use in the WC cars, the adjustment range in the Tilton table shows an adjustment 2.66" - 3.38" . They explain in the instructions how to measure it. Check this out and see if it measures OK. Let us know what you measured

Bill.

Default Thanks Bill

I've confirmed the same conclusion with Vern at West Coast. I'll keep that in mind if I need to do the swap in the future. The second TOB failure that I thought I had turned out to be something else, so no need to tear it down at this time.

Chuck,
I switched to a Tilton T/O bearing last fall. Trashed seals on old McLeod by forgetting to install a clutch pedal stop. . . my bad. Anyway, I still have the old McLeod with a set of replacement "O" rings if you're interested.

Let me know.

Kim
