Default 514 parts

Hey! I am new to this site and I have seen that it is very helpful. I hope it will help my questions as I will put input when I know an answer.
I was just wondering what parts I need to change for the 514 crate ford engine rated at 625hp and 600lbs of torque in order to have an engine to last me more than just a few thousand miles. Can these engines even do that? I've been reading and some of them have been falling apart. I am using this mainly for daily driving. I know gas is expensive but I could deal with that.

I know that I have to get a milder cam and different lifters. Can you guys help me out and tell me what else I should change and what brands to use?

Hey Cobras4life,

Be sure to use the correct pushrods and valve springs with your new cam. Also make sure you have the correct distributor gear (material) and it is installed accurately on the distributor shaft.

Aside from that, the manifold is way taller than the stock Cobra air scoop will accommodate. I switched to an Edelbrock Torker II which is the lowest manifold available. I still had to raise the scoop a bit to get an air cleaner with adequate flow capacity to fit - YMMV.

Mine now has almost 13K with no problems - still going strong

I am not sure short of doing what I did (complete rebuild), and keeping your valve clearances right.. I bought the car with 5500 miles on it. I had 13k on mine when it failed. Even if one of the lifters didn't, the cam bearings were shot due to the valve spring pressure ( so I was told). I went with the hydraulic cam, lifters, lighter vavle springs, push rods, and cast dist gear. One thing I questioned ( I am no expert), was the lifter clearance @ 25 thousands hot. That seems a little much. My cam was showing signs of wear on about half of the lobes. I talked with one of the techs at Ford Racing that was great (Marty). HE is a good one to talk to for tech help.
