I posted a few weeks ago about making the move from a Superformance S1 to a Mk III. Dean and Jud of Dynamic as well as Eric at Performance Engineering walked me right through the whole process and should be acknowleged. Anyway, I got the car on Saturday AM and said good bye to the S1. I was in shock that I had That CAR in MY garage. Read the books and started it up a few times and just lisented to it. Judas Priest what a beautiful sound! The second time I started it up.....OH SH*T....no
oil pressure...Wait that's the
oil temp gage..Wheew...Took my stupid pill today....So we (my 18 year old son and I) start it up and off we go..no choke so it runs rough at first...Wow you really gotta push this clutch a long way. Wow you gotta really long shift throw. Shifting at about 2,500 RPM and this thing wants to GO!
Pull in to put gas in the car and "Whoops" forgot the key...Back home. Get home and there is a couple of my friends at the house. The questions were stupid, funny and almost insulting. There was a post about the "most stupid questions" and I think I heard about 90% of them. 30 minutes later back at the gas station and filling up and instant crowd. People would look at the S1 and ask "What is that?" This car they are positively drawn toward. More questions...The one that was the worst was "Where was it made?" I reply South Africa.....One guy says no way. I say look a the windshied and look it up on the internet.....Back in the car and fire it up and take the car towards Road America (I live about 7 miles from the track). I is a "GERMAN car weekend" and we are in a group. I am trying to work/drive/figure out the car and these guys want to race. Pull up to the corner to turn and did not use the turn signal (forgot it was on the right) and heard a siren...What? Yup that's what I think it is. (My son is laughing histerically...."Wait till mom hears about this.") Pull over..Cop walks up....and says....Lots of nice cars around here...But this sounds a lot better. He explains why he stopped me...I tell him I only have 40 miles on the car and am breaking it in. He says OK...Comes back to the car and asks "how fast is it?....I reply "Can't out run a radio so does it matter?". He laughs and walks back to his car. I pull away and just drive for about 50 miles. The sound, The Primitive Nature, The car almost saying "I am going to "KICk your A**", it is an experience!
We get home and my neighbor's wife comes over and say's (hands on hips) "Why is it all you cars and bikes (Harley's) are so loud? You are always waking up the boys. (Her son's are 15 and 18)" I say get in (watch the side pipes) and off we go for about a 5 mile ride around town. We get home and she has a big smile on her face and says, "That was soooo cool!".
Thanks for letting me lurk on this site and learn from all you guys/girls. Your experiences and advice to each other really helped me get the car of my dreams!
PS- Who ever gave the advice to stay off the "loud pedal". Thanks! The sound the car makes is addicting.
PPS - Thanks again to Dean, Jud and Eric!
PPPS- I still miss the S1.
