Police in hot pursuit...
I know that the 429 had many versions (Thunderjet, Standard, P.I., CJ, ans SCJ) and that the SCJ was the top one. I have had the pleasure of hearing most of these engines run at idle and up to speed and I have been able to find out almost everything about the except for one thing: the cam specs on the 429 P.I. engine. This engine had an alluring, and rough, idle that made listeners think that it wasn't stock, even though it was. I know that the '71 and '72 P.I. had hydraulic lifters and that the cam's high lift was very harsh on them (the lifters became weak and needed replacing after only a year). The engine had decent low-end torque and would never stop pulling at higher RPMs, I am amazed at the fact that the 429 would put the bar from the speedometer into the dash (completely out of sight), which registered 140MPH and had "CALIBRATED" printed on it. Does anyone know what the specs for the cam were?
Charging down the road in a 1972 Ford Custom (originally an Internal Revenuer's car) at 140+...those were the days.
