Default Temporary smoke from one exhaust

One week from last running, temp about 50 degrees, no choke on the carburetor. Attempted to start, the starter turns the engine over just fine for a moment, then bogs down as if stuck. Attempted 5-6 more times where starter can't turn the engine at all. Then finally frees up, engine starts and blows white smoke from the drivers side pipe for about 1 1/2 minutes but slowly dissipates. After smoke stops, the car runs like a champ.

Ideas?

Sounds like you have water in at least one cylinder. Most likely a head gasket or possible an intake gasket. Let the car sit overnight and pull all the plugs and turn it over. If there is water in a cylinder you will see it easily. Also look at the plugs when you take them out. If one is real clean or wet that will also tell the stroy.

Yep,

I think your correct. Looking under the car this morning I've found a "mid-size" puddle of coolant, and a small puddle on the block behind the water pump, right below the head. Not sure if from the intake or head. Pretty hard to tell. Any suggestions where to get gaskets? High performance, or standard?

Steve

If you're changing the intake gasket, be sure to get the NAPA Victor Reinz one, and use "right stuff" around the water ports. Check out this thread for torqueing sequence:
