Question Water pump connection

I have a 1971 429 with a stock water pump. Currently, the expansion tank connects to the heater hose connection on the upper passenger side of the water pump.
I will be relocating the expansion tank to the front cross member of the frame and connect it directly to the radiator.
My question is can I just block off the heater hose connection on the water pump? I'm assuming this is an inlet to the water pump (?).

Yes, as long as the other inlet/outlet is blocked off as well, (on intake below t-stat housing).
