Question Edelbrock Intake on a 1989+ 460

Edelbrock's website states their intake manifolds will not fit on a 460 made after 1988. Where the heads changed after 1988 or are they stating this because Ford switched to FI and this intake won't work the computer controlled squirter stuff? In other words, if I buy a newer engine, can I convert it to carb?

Thanks for the info.

Default Yes...

If you change the heads. And, to get the right compression and/or clearance, probably the pistons too. Though there are combinations that can be put together that would work with the factory EFI pistons. Optimal, no. Work, yes.

Or, you could build an adapter plate to bolt to the 460 EFI manfold, cork all the injector holes, and run that. It's been done. It works fine for a mild engine.

If you're looking for an affordable turn-key crate motor, try any of the vendors on www.460ford.com or your Ford Motorsports catalog. There are good values to be found with both.

Not positive, but I believe the angle of the intake face was changed making them not fit later ones. Maybe a modification to prevent carbs being put on, I'm not sure.

There was a specific 460 I was looking at locally, but I think I'll stick with my original plan of building up a 390FE. Thank you for the information.
