Unhappy Valve tap

Guys have a question.

Brought my car to a local shop. Everything running fine, just getting new rubber for the rear. When I picked the car up and drove it home I could hear (over the pipes) what sounded like valve tap. Oil is full and new.

This is a new car for me and the valve system is a Jessel. I am not familar with them but understand they are very good and solid. The mechanic is going to pick the car up on Monday with his flatbed just to make sure nothing is seriously wrong. He thinks it may just be an adjustment. Anyone had this kind of problem before. could they losen or go out of adjustment like that?

Again, car went in good came out tapping.

Well, were you there while they fitted the tires? If not, the mechanics could have gone out on a bit of a joy ride and overrevved the engine. If you left it with them to have the work done, I would present them with the bill for any repairs other than adjustment.

You know, this may sound stupid, and is probably completely wrong, but a loose washer or something of that nature bouncing around on metal can give the same sort of noise. It seems unlikely that the valves got out of whack moving the car around the shop, unless they pulled a ferris beuller on you....or just wanted to hear what 9K rpm sounds like from a cobra...

Was the noise heard on both sides or just the drivers side?

James - definately not a mechanic, but I saw an ad for Holiday Express last night.

Not sure why, but the tapping seems to have subsidded quite a bit. Still there's a little. So we took the valve covers off. Now I am trying to get the original engine builder to give me the Cam Card so we can adjust. (The original ower of the car didnt have Cam specs).
