Default Braided Ground Strap location

Just a quick question.

While doing the install, I realized that I havent connected my braided ground strap. My buddy removed it originally when we took the motor out, and he can not remember where it was connected.

It is currently connected to the frame, the other end is the question. I am not sure if it is supposed to connect to the block or somewhere on the bellhousing or tranny.

It is located on the passenger side if that makes a difference.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

MJ,

I alway connect the ground from the engine to the frame. Find a accessory bolt hold on the block or sometimes I will use the motor mount bolt hole to the frame.

Since the starter is the high current load I'd hook it up there. (mounting flange bolts) The block would be the second best location.

Any unused threaded lug on the block is OK, be sure to clean off the paint.

I used one on the front of the engine and another at the bellhousing on the start bolt.

Guys,

Thanks for the replies. The frame side is good. It is a nice clean connection. (I unbolted it to make sure). It was the other side that was the question.

I think I am going to go to the block. I am not sure where you would bolt it to the starter other than the bolt hoolding the starter in place (is that it?)

The other concern I have it that the length of the braided wire is about 18inches. The distance from the starter bolt to the current ground location is probably about 10 inches, I wouldn't want that much to hang down (of course that can be fixed...) (by the way that seems like a reocccuring theme with this install, "of course that can be fixed")

Block to frame.
Make sure there is NO paint around threaded holes.
Use good internal or external star washers under each bolt.

If the strap is still connected to the frame in the original place, you should be able to get an idea of where it was on the block by seeing where it will reach and if there are any tapped holes for a bolt in that area. I don't believe that you can have to many grounds so I have three on my car.
