To advise anyone, especially a newbie that the FE is superior in any way to a 385 series motor is a hideously ridiculous statement and symptomatic of a bigger issue.
I have seen this before, the disease is called “FE-titus”. The disease results in an ever-increasing pressure inside the skull. Some of the more irritating and persistent symptoms are:
Swelled head
Delusions of grandeur
Dementia
Incessant babbling
However all is not lost, there is a cure.
It is a moderately invasive treatment.
It is critical that the pressure inside the skull be relieved as quickly as possible……
My research suggests that a large caliber bullet traveling at near the speed of sound can rapidly release the pressure and relieve the pain and discomfort this disease causes all those near and around the sufferer……

The 460 is harder to charge the plugs on in a Cobra.
LOL
Really, either engine is fine. If you like the original leak (I mean look) buy the FE. The 460 will make more tq.
I have an FE, but either engine is fine.

It is true that an FE powered Cobra will sell for more than a 385 series motor in the same car. This is well documented.
The OP's question was based on the same cobra manufacturer with either an Automatic 385 or a 4-speed FE. If the cars are in similar condition and the price is the same, the FE would appear to be the bargain between the two if they are the same price.
However if you have a bum knee, the automatic is looking good anyway isn't it?

That airplane is why i stay on the ground,if i had any engine that leaked that much oil i would never run it cause oil is to expensive to use that much of it.....that lends new meaning to the term........fill it up with oil and check the gas.........

I like Fe's too and am currently using one.
It's at the bottom of my favorite lake! It holds my Sundancer perfectly regardless of the size of the wind or waves.....

You know, you are exactly right though. The reason I bought a REPLICA cobra was because it would hold its value. I keep it locked in the garage. I don’t drive it except to car shows on sunny days. Unless its more than 10 miles away, then I trailer it there so it won't get dirty.......
Oh wait a minute! that's not why I own a Cobra! I like to DRIVE IT!! As fast and as often as I can. I was looking for power and (say it with me) RELIABILITY at a (drum-roll please)lower cost.
Make no mistake real Cobras and other cars (cars built in the 60's, not the continuation replicas being built now. Are you listening REAL1?) should have the motors that were used in that area as I feel (and that’s what really matters) they are historically significant.

Well, Dr 385 makes sense to me.
If you want to be a true replica, get the 390 & stroke it to 427...that's what I would do if I were going to buy a completed one.
However, I have a Factory Five and I'm putting in a stroked 460 (521ci)...should be lots of fun if I can keep it on the road.

The one who is there for the drive. The one that is all about being behind the wheel, the smells, the sounds, the wind, the adrenaline. Being exhausted after a drive, but so exhilarated, it's hard to sit down.
That’s what makes a Cobra different from all the other cars.
No problem keeping it on the road, just choose your tires wisely.....

Extra butter on mine.
My car is a 1999. The original owner put 4200 miles on it in the 8 years he owned it.
As of the end of this month, I will have owned it for 2 years, and will have put over 11,000 miles on it. Mine is a driver.
