Default Lucas Wiper

I've searched the archives on this and couldn't find my answer.

I have a Lucas setup--the wipers are typical Cobra style. Wired only to an on/off toggle, low speed--the switching and electrical I can handle, there is a hi/low/park connection on the motor. Plan on using a Lucas wiper switch.

Problem----the wiper works fine with the blades off, full sweep of the armature--put the blades on then it binds and only moves the
blades 2-3", doesn't blow a fuse, just sounds as if something is slipping and not overcoming the tension of the wiper arms against the glass.

Any Ideas?

Also how do you disconnect the motor from the cable? loosened the bolt to expose the worm cable but couldn't get anything to come loose?

This little sucker has got me confused
