I've done the tricky thing and have a BMW V8 with the 5 speed Tiptronic gearbox. Given the complexity of the package I would not recommend trying to match the BMW box to another engine, it was bad enough getting the gearbox and engine combination to work outside its normal environment.
Having said that the acceleration and smoothness of the drive is outstanding........and theres always the manual option if I get bored.....or even converting to paddle shift on/ behind the steering wheel in the future........
