David, the use of drilled and slotted rotors, as I was told by a brake engineer, is for high speed road racing where the gases from the pads is allowed to escape through the holes. The slots are/were added to improve the friction cooefficient.
In a recent race I watched a car came off the trace and the brake rotor was cherry red. The braking system needed all the help it could get.
For us road warriors, drilled and slotted may be just for show, but there are people on this forum who race and probably need the help of drilled and slotted rotors.
What did you end up with on those rears?
