Trularin;
I'm using stock Lincoln Versailles rear disc brakes,they work well for me both on the street and the road course,my rotors on the rear are drilled....For the road course I switch to Porterfield pads,great for road racing,not good for the street....
I agree,for all out road racing the drilled/slotted rotors are probably better.... At a recent Vintage Auto road race in Texas using a 2.1 mile road course I noticed most of the Vintage Mustangs were not using drilled or slotted rotors.... Talked to a couple of guys and they said they found no real advantage.... They do make good use of brake cooling ducts though.... They duct the air to the center of the inside of the rotor pushing the air and heat out the vanes,with the curved vanes in the center the ducting increases the air circulation created by the vanes...
For my own use,I did not see any real advantage when I ran drilled rotors over "stock" rotors,but I do not run my car as hard as others either....I believe for street use you would not get your rotors/pads hot enough to see the advantage of drilled/slotted rotors,hence the "show/wow" factor... At the few car shows I attend,people are always looking at the rear disc brakes and say how "cool" the rear drilled rotors are.......
My new front set-up uses 12" aftermarket rotors bolted to the "hat",this set-up is very popular with the Vintage racing crowd and almost none use drilled/slotted rotors with this set-up....I'm not a brake expert by any stretch,but have looked at many different set-ups before changing mine and talked to a bunch of the front runners to see what they were using and this was their choice.....A few told me they quit using drilled rotors because they found they cracked more often and easier than non-drilled rotors...
