Default PCV Valve troubles!!!!

ok, im dumb let me get that out of the way first...

now...I've got a carbeurated 302...I'm just building it i'ts never been run before...I've got "Cobra" valve covers from Ford Motorsport...each cover has a pipe thing that sticks up...on one side, the breather cap simply presses on...i've done that, but for the other side, I seem to be having some troubles...I know a PCV valve goes there, but I don't know which one to get...I saw another car with the same covers and he had removed the metal "pipe" that comes up, and he had a rubber gromet with the valve coming out from there...do I have to remove that pipe, along with the plate underneath it? or do I get a valve that will fit excatly into that pipe...Thanks very much!!!!
