It may have also been sparked (bad word) by a thread over at Gasholes where I asked Pat to make me a cover to go around the pump/filter so my stuff wouldn't go banging into it...something we noticed during the Monterey Historics last year when we filled the trunk. The Original Gashole made a nice arruminum thingy that attaches in front of and behind the pump/filter against the side panel, and has holes for observation/ventalation. Two screws hold it. I've yet to install it semi-permanently due to laziness and a desire to install quick release fasteners, but it'll work like a charm by all appearances. When Little Davey saw it, he noted the same thing you referred to. Nice thing is it's easy removal.

Probably best to move the whole affair outside the trunk in the final analysis. Not everything from the 60s was necessarily a good idea.
