Never a hit- just a near-miss.
My wife was driving in her first-ever Open Track session on P.I.R., I'm in the passenger seat trying not to look too nervous, hammering down the straightaway... when I see outta the side of my helmet this gigantic freakin'
Pteradactyl
flying low, flying slow...!!
Portland Internat'l Raceway is built on wetlands (!?) and it was a Great Blue Heron slowly completing takeoff and well before cruising altitude.
I thought we were "gonners"-

it looked so big, it woulda crashed thru the windscreen and taken both of us out!!
Fortunately, he just majestically kept to his 5% climb... and we missed him by a
good 8 feet!
Can you imagine the headlines? (Can you imagine the track insurance after that??
