What we're talking about is installing the windwings in a fashion other than what is prescribed. The prescribed installation calls for removing screws that hold the windshield to the posts and replacing them with longer screws to accommodate the thickness of the windwing mounting blocks.

Instead of doing it that way; drill new holes to the rear of where the windshield mounting holes are and tap the holes and mount the windwing blocks using the new holes.

Since the windshield posts are tapered from the top to the bottom, there is plenty of room to drill the new holes without it interfering with the windshield.
