From what I have read, Miles was not a popular guy with the crews and others. Perhaps because he was "sure" his way was the best, perhaps because he was known to hold up testing untill he had taken his little stove out of his street car and brewed a "cuppa" tea before going to work.

Sometimes people who are self-assured are seen as "arrogant" and that may be why he was not well liked, or possibly his personality was such that you could not get close to him and others saw it as "distance" or "arrogance".

Again, this is based on several different articles and interviews I have read. I never met Miles so I would defer to someone who has.

As Cal says, the tranny is the chief suspect in the crash, however the investigation also revealed weakness in the chassis riveting/bonding that was changed in further MK IV cars.
