Kris - Sorry, it does'nt work that way. Using that logic no transmission of any type, stick included would not work if you matched its power requirments. What I'm talking about here is the trannys loss'es it takes to make a car accelerate. You are correct that a 10 horse electric motor can drive almost all automotive trannys at a constant speed. What you are talking about is drive through efficiency. That efficiency is the heat producer in trannys BTW. Not the kicking around stuff we all do to these hot rods. Another way to look at the heat issue is to think of a tranny as a giant heat sink in the middle of your car. That more than anything else is why factorys switched to aluminum cases over the earlier cheaper cast iron cases on automatics. Aluminum gives up heat better you know.
