I'm putting one in my 289, Lew. I have the pieces made and covered, but not installed yet. I am installing a street 289 dash and I started from scratch.
It is a fair amount of work. I have access to various CSX 289 cars so that was my starting point for dimensions, etc. I had to make a hammer form to form the lower edge, the steering column hole and the glove box hole. The glove box proper has to be formed from sheet aluminum and fastened to the dash and the footbox.
If you are starting with an already made dash, check to make sure the aluminum is not "hard". I used 3003 and annealled the sections I formed. Some people don't bother with the annealling. I'm not sure what alloy Tom and Dave are using for their dashes. It's probably better to start over and keep the original for a pattern.
Not sure if I really helped you at all. Good luck.
