When I bought my car, the sending unit was in the auxillary dip stick hole in my Canton pan. It never worked for two years. I eventually had it moved to my
oil
filter adapter and it works great. I believe the
oil
adapter is the best place.

After a good hard ride.....oil pressure is over 50, temp is below 190, she idles and no new dents. LIFE IS GOOD!
