What other Fords came w/ 427 SO engines?
Went to a car show yesterday and saw a Ford Galaxy with 427 badges on the side. The owner said it was originally a Side Oiler car but he has since put in a 428. Also saw a Torino and Couger with 427 badges; the Torino was now equiped with a 429, but the owner of the 67 Couger swore he had the orig 427 in it....but said it had hydraulic lifters. I told him I thought Ford didn't make the change to hydraulics until 68 (someone correct me if I'm wrong). He looked stunned, and then told me he had just purchased the car a few weeks ago and the previous owner told him about the engine spec's and said the car was all original. I think I wrecked the kids day............hope I didn't give him bad info!
I told him I was pretty sure the early 427's (63-67) had solid lifters (I have a 66 SO block in my SPF). Then we got into a discussion trying to figure out what other model cars Ford put 427 Side Oilers in. We were wondering how many 427's were built each year; what cars you could get them in; and what were the different HP figures. We ended up drawing a small croud of Ford enthusiests during our discussion, but most seemed to have different oppinions (as usual, no one could agree).
Does anyone here have that info, or give me a place that I can go to (web site.....books to look for, etc) that may have that kind of information? I'm especially interested in the model year 1966, just because that's the year of my SO block. But I've often wondered how many cars (besides Cobra's......and I know they recieved a lot of 428's later on) came with 427 SO's as an option.
Thanks in advance for any help / info I can get!
