You are correct. Sorry about the wrong date on the GTE.
In '68 Merc built 357 GTEs with 427s. In May of '68 and on, they built another 53 or so GTEs with 428CJs.
I have edited my orginal post.
Too bad Ford didn't do the same thing in '68 and built a Mustang GT"R" with a 427. That would have been a very cool car!
