At DVSF III "street drags" one red cobra was particularly impressive. Onlookers started asking each other "what's under the hood". First whispers of "Chevy" then "502 Chevy". The radar said it was the fastest there. Under the hood was a very ordinary looking sbc! With close to 300 Ford powered cars there one would have expected a different result.
I don't recall any of the 60s production cobras(race or street) having sbc, bbc, 351w, 351c, 302sbf, Y-block, 460, 427SOHC, V-10, 426 hemi, or 231 V-6. To my mind only 260 and 289 sbfs and 427/428 FEs can claim to be "correct". Seems to me that "correct" engines would have correct internals and externals, not just correct blocks. No 408s,514s or Vortecs. Pay your money, take your pick, and have fun with what you build.
