Tom,

If you have a burned clutch pack it is most likely due to cheap parts or the pack being set to tight and or he clipped a seal when he put it together. The crap would be caused by the clutch facing being burned off. SOunds like you just need to find a different builder.
Find someone that will install a HD set in your rebuild. The Cobra is so lite that you should never burn up a trans in one if you have good cooling for the fluid.
Trust me when I say that if the C-6 is built correctly you will never burn it up. The motor will wear out before the trans does.
I put one behind a 427 years ago and it is still going strong with no problems. Just find a place that understands what you are putting the trans in and ask them to build it to the car. The C-6 is very easy to overhaul. If you have some skill you could do it yourself.
