Dan;

It is a 1974 351-W block with 1976 ords in a 86 Crown Vic.......... Sounds like a rebuilt engine to me..... Check the bore,see if it is still 4.00 or 4.030 or more.........

The only other thing I could think of is that at some point in time someone swapped out the engines,so it is possible that it has not been rebuilt,but I would not bet on it.........

If the engine has been rebuilt,it is not uncommon to see D-6 rods or any other year stuff in a rebuilt motor........The shops use what they have on hand at the time,nothing wrong with that....... The rods are the same,just made in a different year than the block.........

BTW; Ford must have made a gazillion 351-Ws in 1974,I have seen at least two 1978 LTDs that had D-4 engines in them and they came that way from the factory.......They used the supply on hand regardless of the year it was made in.........
