Question External oil drains?

Has anyone done this?

I still can't comprehend the fact that the FE has no oil return drains in the heads. What were the designers thinking!

In it's current form, I'd guess that the oil to the rockers just fills up the head under the valve covers, until it overflows back through the pushrod holes. If you run the factory oil drain pans, I would think that helps collect a little of it, but it still have to flow uphill.

So I was thinking about tapping the rear of the head at the bottom of the valve cover area, for some drail lines back to the oil pan. Has anyone done this? I'd think it would be a great idea, especially for a high rpm FE.
