Post Back to Basics

Guys,

I am in the process of getting a 390 together. Now, the bits that I have are:

390 Core from a '68 Galaxie
with (all new):

Edelbrock Performer RPM Heads (complete), manifold, cam kit
1407 750cfm Edelbrock Carb
.60 over TRW forged pistons
Mellings HV oil pump & hardened shaft
Mellings 7qt oil pan
windage tray
will be changing to electronic ignition.

I am based in South Africa which relates to almost a non-existent knowledge base regarding FE's. What I am after is some pointers, books, articles, etc. that will be able to assist me in my attempt to build something decent.

I have the book written by Steve Christ and some articles downloaded from the web.

Information such as:
- Oil passage modifications
- When to use upgraded rocker shafts and stands, etc. would be great.

The plan is to use it in a Cobra and probably limit the RPMs to 6000 max.

I also have a 410 Mercury engine which can be stripped for additional parts. Is there anything better in this engine than the 390?

Any comments will be appreciated

Cheers
