Not knowing the differences of alluminum version over original. Usually the intake gasket will protrude above the intake maniflold and head.I was told thity tears ago to not cut that little piece off just carefully peen it down.Another point is the head and manifold should meet forming a flat surface for the valvecover to seal against. My engine ,the intake manifold was quite a bit higher, appearently the heads had been milled .After some checking I ended up having the manifold to head surfaces milled, lowering manifold so gasket ,ports , and top edges all lined up.They had been running with the ports and gasket askew. The trade off which allways happens is there is no room for the original cork gasket at the front and back of the manifold to engine.Make sure the covers havent been bent or warpped .Everything needs to be flat.and do not get carried away tightening. You loose when things bend.
