IMPORTANT CONSIDERATION - BLOCK CASTING DATE
I was looking at a FMS 392W, but I got some good advice about how a late model casting date may effect your re-sale value in several states (registration issues).
In CA, AB 2863 was just
amended , and you really need to be pre-1976 more than ever. The rolling 30 year exemption is gone. Other states like New Jersey require a block of 1972? or older.
Now I am having a 408W built by Speed-O-Motive of West Covina, CA. I specified a pre-1974 block. I have heard great things about them from other drivers on this forum, and I am glad about my decision. They do all of their machining and clearancing with a CNC.
Many, many builders believe that 408 is the best displacement on a windsor stroker for the reasons mentioned here. Also, I am getting higher-end internals, and a dyno'd (broken in, valve lashed, jetted) engine complete in a box with an MSD ignition - turn-key.
