I've had a T-5Z behind my 408W stroker for two years now and no problems!! The lack of traction will save you any torque damage.....provided you don't miss third and break a shift fork!!
Get an aftermarket shifter and "forgedaboudit"....buy a 3550 or TKO after you break your T-5....if you ever do!!
