As mentioned above, you can have it either way. Some mid '60's Mustangs (289 motor) used passenger side water pump outlet. If you go this route, you'll have an awful time seeing the timing pointer.

From around '68 - up, all water pumps used drivers side water inlet. If your radiator has a passenger side lower inlet (most do or there would be steering rack interference) you make a lower water crossover out of 1 3/4" exhaust tubing, preferably stainless. Looks good, works good, doesn't leak or corrode.
