It simply designates that the car was registered in Queensland, Australia. The first plate ever issued by the Main Roads Dept in Queensland was back in 1921, and they numbered each plate beginning with the letter Q until they eventually hit 6 figures, then changed to the current style of 3 letters and 3 numbers.
There was an auction held back in 1985, and a total of 142 lots were auctioned. The plates have proven to be a solid investment. Q23 (the plate I mentioned was for sale for $50K) sold at that auction for $3700. Other prices that day....
