As the story goes, early Cobra racers experienced aspiration problems. Someone went to a local speed shop and bought an aftermarket fiberglass hood scoop to help force air through the engine. It was fastened using pop rivets. Problem solved. Replica manufacturers mold the scoop into the hood in production. More authentic to have pop rivets and there is a proper spacing although I can't remember the exact numbers.
The same was true for the rivets around the front of the hood. During racing, the high airflow across the hood skin caused the skin and 1 inch tube frame to separate. Pop rivets solved this problem too. To be more authentic, some owners pop rivet their hoods and scoop to make the car look like an original CSX. The pinnacle of fake snakes.
