There are semetrical water jacket passage holes at front and rear of block. The head gaskets have one of those passages blocked off.The blocked off pasage goes toward the front.Coolant goes from the pump into the front of the bock .,travels to the rear , rises into the head and comes forward in the head, and out at front into the intake manifold and thermostat. You turn those gaskets around and coolant won't bother flowing to the rear of the engine.pump -front of block-up through the front of head-out to intakemanifold. No flow in rear of engine.
